Riding Herd on the Financial Range - #7
America is a Constitutional Republic and YOU better start ramming that message down your elected officials' throats, or live with the consequences.

Howdy folks,
I am still not happy with the decision of the Supreme Court to lift the stay on the sale of Chrysler, and so I am not in a very good mood today. I have to say I am very worried about what is happening to the America I grew up in, and for which I fought and risked my life. I know people are angry, but very few are doing anything about it. Hopefully, it is because you may not know what to do. I constantly receive calls from friends and readers asking that very question, and my response is as follows.
1. Personally, I think that taking the fight to Washington is a waste of time and a no win situation. No one competes with God or a corrupt media. With few exceptions, the people are no longer represented by those they put, and leave, in office. I say that believing neither of our two mainstream parties has done anything that intelligent, sensible Americans can understand or be proud of. Congress STINKS! They either think we are too stupid, or they misinterpret apathy for acquiescence; and certainly they have become too arrogant and beholden to special interest to listen to the people. This could be cured with term limits, but I do not think that is going to happen as the first step. So while I write my Congressional officials weekly, and feel fortunate to be in Wyoming where we can actually get them on the phone, we need a bigger club, literally and figuratively, to BUST CONGRESS.
2. The only way we the people are going to make a difference is at the State level. This is not a fight over one particular policy or the other, or a political ideology. This fight is about being honestly represented and about the Constitution as it stands; it is AGAINST the usurpers of power in Washington where the people have simply handed over their power to someone intent on telling us what to do and how to live our lives, constantly legislating and taxing us to death. Above all, it is about our rights as Americans to live our lives in the pursuit of happiness, leaving our kids better off than we were, and having the privacy to enjoy the fruits of our labor. So we must take the fight to those that we can influence. We are and should be making our voices heard at every town meeting, accessing locally elected government officials and ensuring that our State representatives remember their civics class. And if need be to re-educate them to exactly what is the U.S. Constitution to the American way of life and government. We are a Constitutional Republic. They had better re-read the Bill of Rights and pay particular attention to the 10th amendment to get us out of this mess. It says:
The Tenth Amendment (Amendment X) of the United States Constitution, which is part of the Bill of Rights, was ratified on December 15, 1791. The Tenth Amendment restates the Constitution's principle of Federalism by providing that powers not granted to the national government nor prohibited to the states are reserved to the states or the people.
Historically, it follows the earlier provision of the Articles of Confederation. "Each state retains its sovereignty freedom and independence and every power jurisdiction and right which is not by this Confederation expressly delegated to the United States in Congress assembled." [1] After the Constitution was ratified, some wanted to add a similar amendment limiting the federal government to powers "expressly" delegated, which would have denied implied powers.[2] However the word "expressly" ultimately did not appear in the Tenth Amendment as ratified and therefore the Tenth Amendment did not amend the Necessary and Proper Clause.
Turning to Wikipedia for help, here is how it is being interpreted today:
"Interpretations of the amendment can be divided into two camps. The first interpretation as held by the Tenth Amendment Center, the Libertarian and Constitution Parties and a few Republicans, including Ron Paul, Dan Itse and Jeff Flake is that the Constitution does not grant the United States any power that it does not expressly mention. This has been used as the basis for such court cases as Gonzales v. Raich, and for arguments in favor of repealing a large number of Federal laws abolishing the Federal Reserve and slashing the Federal budget by 50% or more. It is also why amendments were necessary for the abolition of slavery and the prohibition of alcohol; without said amendments Congress did not have the authority to do those things. In the 1996 presidential campaign, Republican nominee Bob Dole made repeated references to his determination to re-invigorate the Tenth Amendment.
The contrary opinion is that the Constitution grants Congress the authority to do more or less anything that is not explicitly prohibited by the first eight amendments"
I am not attempting to provide a history lesson here, but simply to guide you to where you can read more about this very important amendment at Wikipedia.
Suffice it to say that the Federal Government has stretched the interpretation over the years, and broadened its powers based on a Supreme Court ruling related to the regulation of interstate commerce, managing to extend control over everything from the hourly minimum wage to private gardens (or anything else for that matter) that moves between states, even if it is made in the state and for sole use of the citizens of the state. They did this by simply adding the words "or impacting on interstate commerce"
Well guess what? It’s time for Americans like you and me to take back our country, unless of course you don't care about sovereignty, debt burdens, the dollar or just enjoy being beholden to 31 year old bureaucrats telling us what to do. What I am asking you to consider is to become an activist in your own way. The only way Washington is going to listen is if the States (and local governments telling the States)start reclaiming and reinforcing their own sovereignty as reflects the will of its citizens.
The States also need to call for a Constitutional Convention to amend the U.S. Constitution to restore our government and its branches to their proper roles within their constitutionally authorized roles; this means recognition of and authority to the sovereignty of the people, as well as recognizing the authority of the states. This is about who rules and under a constitutional republic the people reign sovereign over their elected officials. Get it Washington!
The Bill of Federalism will “peacefully” restore, if not save, our constitutional republic. If this more peaceful way to effect change does not come about, I fear the only other way is going to result first in a tax revolt (believing in what Gerald Celente says) or worse, and this is going to get far uglier. I am not advocating this or anything beyond the ballot and throwing the bums out via impeachment or referendum, but lots of people are starting to talk about withholding tax revenues rather than pay for the excesses of out-of-control politicians who can’t think of enough ways to spend and waste taxpayer funds.
How can anyone with a brain, or just plain common sense, argue with individual responsibility and stopping the spread the wealth campaign, which is in full swing with this administration and Congress. You would think that Socialism or Fascism is a difficult sell even after Bush, even if it is masquerading and being sold to a gullible, apathetic American public as Progressivism. Whatever your political persuasion, it should scare the crap out of you to see what the Progressive Caucus stands for and the list of our representatives who are members.
For the record, I did not think of all this by myself. I have joined a group out of Connecticut called Distressed Patriots for America. I strongly suggest you visit their Web Site and spend some time reading what they are saying, what they are promoting and GET ON BOARD with their campaign to Save Our Constitutional Republic.
The reason I hope you will go to visit them is that on their site you will find information on who to write, how to obtain addresses, letters and most importantly, you will be able to download a copy of the Bill of Federalism to read and PASS ON TO YOU STATE LEGISLATORS. Send them a copy and demand they get behind it or tell you why they won’t. And if they won’t, VOTE THE OUT OF OFFICE.
This is a worthwhile endeavor and maybe, just maybe, working together we will make a difference.
Your humble editor
